The overall concept of this year's The New Japan Islands is Cycles of Hyper Intuition—the idea of super perception—as expressed in its main content. The spatial design was created under the concept Field of Divine Nature, loosely translated as the notion of spirituality. The NHK Group videographed 18 pieces of Mingei (folk craft) stored at The Japan Folk Crafts Museum in Komaba, Tokyo at the ultra-high resolution of 8K, developing the world's first 8K video jockey (8KVJ) system. Created during periods ranging from the Jomon, Heian, Kamakura, Edo, Meiji and Showa eras, the subject objects include Dogu (clay dolls), grain storage jars, vases, teapots, textile products, Buddha statues, headdresses and caskets handcrafted by unnamed ancestors. Hyper Intuition is experienced when the innate beauty of these simple and locally-rooted expressions are viewed at an overwhelming high resolution of 32 million pixels at 8K on a mega-screen of the dimensions of 12.4 m × 7 m. The use of Panasonic's Silky Fine Mist adds to the mystical experience. This 8KVJ was made possible by Yoichi Ochiai (video jockey), Hidefumi Kenmochi (sound jockey), Jiro Endo (lighting jockey) and Rintaro Shimohama (mist jockey).
